Job Purpose
FLOW Uganda is growing rapidly, and, in this context, it is strengthening the capabilities of its local finance department. They are therefore looking for an experienced and passionate finance professional to help take the company to the next level.
The Finance and Accounts Manager will provide financial leadership and oversight, ensuring impeccable implementation of financial processes and procedures. This role is essential for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, managing accounts payable and receivable, conducting financial analyses for strategic decision-making, and ensuring compliance with statutory declarations.
Reporting
The Finance and Accounts manager will report to the Global Finance Officer and the Regional CEO for East Africa, who is the overall business manager in the country.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management: Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, and overall financial management.
- Accounting and Reporting: Oversee all in-country accounting inputs, ensuring that financial transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP.
- Budgeting: Develop, maintain, and manage the entity’s budgets, providing regular updates and analysis of budgetary performance against financial objectives.
- Regulatory Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with all applicable financial and corporate regulations; diligently prepare and file required financial and tax reports in a timely manner.
- Tax Management: Proactively manage tax obligations to optimize tax efficiency while ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations. This includes anticipating tax liabilities, calculating tax payments, and initiating payments on time.
- Financial risk and liquidity: Identify and monitor financial risks (liquidity, FX, regulatory changes) and recommend mitigation measures.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct thorough financial analyses to identify trends, forecast financial outcomes, and provide strategic financial insights to management.
- Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of financial strategies and smooth operation of financial processes.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in financial processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage the complete cycle of accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing, payment, and reconciliation of all transactions.
- Petty Cash Management: Oversee and manage petty cash transactions, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of petty cash usage. Conduct regular audits and reconciliations to maintain integrity of the petty cash fund.
- Financial Oversight: Monitor and ensure the accuracy of financial data; prepare comprehensive reports on financial performance, including variance analyses and projections.
- Compliance and Audits: Coordinate with internal and external auditors during audits; ensure adherence to financial laws and standards, maintaining all necessary documentation for compliance purposes.
- Tax Compliance: Ensure all tax calculations are accurate and that payments are made promptly. Advise management on tax planning strategies and changes in tax laws that could impact the company.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure financial strategies are integrated with overall business operations.
- Innovation in Financial Processes: Stay ahead of fintech advancements, integrating new technologies and methodologies to enhance the financial reporting and management capabilities of the company.

- Financial Accuracy: Ensure the preparation of accurate and timely financial accounts in compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Tax Compliance: Manage tax obligations efficiently, maintain excellent relationships with tax authorities, and ensure timely submission of all tax reports.
- Operational Excellence: Continually refine financial processes to boost efficiency and accuracy, supporting the growth and success of the company
Performance Targets: Specific performance targets will be set in line with organizational objectives at the start of each quarter, focusing on accuracy, compliance, operational efficiency, and strategic financial management.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Professional Experience: 5-10 years of substantial experience in accounting and finance roles, preferably within a bank, microfinance institution (MFI), or fintech company.
- Financial Management: Demonstrated experience in managing financial accounting, control, and budgeting processes within a fast-paced environment.
- Audit Management: Proven track record of successfully managing audit processes in collaboration with reputable audit firms, ensuring adherence to financial regulations and standards.
- Desirable: experience in a start-up/high growth company; experience in FinTech; experience in banks, microfinance or other lending institutions.

- Strategic Financial Skills: Ability to provide strategic financial input and leadership at an executive level, supporting the company’s growth and financial health.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical skills, capable of interpreting complex financial data to make informed decisions and provide actionable insights.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of financial regulations and accounting standards, capable of ensuring compliance while optimizing financial operations.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Educational Background:
- Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or related field. Advanced degrees or professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, or CFA are highly desirable.
- Specialized Tax training preferred (Certificates, Diplomas, etc.).
